Love is an emotion, a word that is spoken easily, but it's true meaning is rarely ever understood or even felt.
Most hearts know the warmth of affection, but few ever taste the kind of love that transforms the soul, or one that brings tears to the eyes.
The kind of love that makes a person walk barefoot through darkness, stand firm when the world trembles and give without measure simply because giving is devotion.
And when such love found its place in the hearts of those closest to our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAWS), it became something the world would remember forever.
Because their love was not from the ordinary. It was loyalty carved into footsteps and longing that lived beyond a lifetime.
But what exactly is this love?
Love is when Abu Bakr (RA) didn't move an inch even though he was in immense pain after his foot was bitten into by a snake because the Prophet (SAWS) was sleeping in his lap.
When Ali (RA) came to the city of Madinah with his feet swollen due to walking such a distance and the Prophet (SAWS) upon seeing him cried and went to massage his feet.
When Bilal (RA) left the city of Madinah after the Prophet (SAWS) died because everything in that city reminded him of his beloved (SAWS).
When Fatimah (RA) would rush to her father whenever he was hurt, wiping dust from his blessed face while tears filled her eyes and he (SAWS) would smile, and comfort her instead.
When Khadijah (RA) calmed her husband, the Prophet Muhammad (SAWS), the moment revelation first came to him, instead of asking him to act tough, she told him with unwavering certainty: "Allah will never forsake you." Because she saw greatness in him long before the world ever did.
When Zainab (RA), the daughter of the Prophet (SAWS), sent her mother Khadijah's (RA) necklace to ransom her husband from captivity, the Prophet (SAWS)upon seeing it, wept, reminding him of his beloved wife. It was a reminder that love was not just a fleeting emotion but an enduring force, one that moved hearts to act so selflessly.
Love is when Hamza (RA), the uncle of Prophet (SAWS) raised his sword to shield him, risking his own life, fueled not by anger, but by a devotion that refused to let harm touch the one he loved dearly.
When Aisha (RA) stayed awake through the nights, her eyes bright with curiosity, listening to the Prophet (SAWS), learning from him, preserving his words so the world would know his guidance.
Love is when the Prophet (SAWS), feeling the nearness of his final moments, called Fatimah (RA) to his side. She came running, tears streaming down her face, her heart breaking at the thought of losing her father.
And he, seeing her sorrow, smiled gently, whispering words that made her laugh through her tears, promising that she will the leader of the women in Paradise.
Even in his final moment, his love soothed her grief, turning sadness into joy.
And this, this is what love truly is.
Not loud, not demanding, not wrapped in grand gestures, or long poetry.
It's the quiet strength that holds a heart steady, a sincere tear that falls out of loyalty, a peaceful smile given in pain, a sacrifice made without hesitation.
A love that does not fade with distance, one that does not die with time, and does not end with death.
And though these stories touch the heart deeply, they are only a glimpse of the love that surrounded them. There is more to be told and more to be felt.
Part 2 is coming soon, because love like this cannot be contained into a single chapter.
What part of their expression of love moved you the most? I'd love to hear your thoughts...!
